A unique mineral salt

Laos is a land-locked country, with no access to the sea. The story of salt in Laos began hundreds years ago in a small village called Ban Bo, meaning “the Source of Salt”. To produce salt, the villagers made wells at the source and brought brine (salty water) through bamboo pipes to boil in clay pots. Salt was then collected and put in bamboo baskets covered with Tong Kung leaves and kept for years for consumption.
